During the classes of the project «The Power of the Music» we dealt with a lot of current topics; we’ve studied the songs and the melodies of the film The Greatest Showman, the songs Imagine and Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon, Earth Song and Heal the World by Michael Jackson, Bad Habits and 2 Step by Ed Sheeran.
We’ve learnt there are different types of music and each song is unique; however, they all have one thing in common: they transmit messages and emotions.
The project taught me that in songs and in films nothing is there by chance and everything has a meaning or a message that is more or less clear.
The themes, unfortunately still current, like racism, prejudice, war and the care of our planet are the subject of lots of songs as a denunciation.
Another common theme in songs is the dream, as in the song Imagine or Million Dreams.
As in real life, when translating a song, we mustn’t stop to the literal meaning of the text, but we must look for the deeper idea that the writer wants to convey, without stopping on the appearances and without prejudices.
Music has the power of unite people and, if it is used well, it can lead us to a better world.

Il Progetto “the Power of the Music” ha affrontato molti argomenti d’attualità attraverso lo studio del film The Greatest Showman, delle melodie in esso presenti e dei testi delle canzoni Imagine e Give Peace a Chance di John Lennon, Earth Song e Heal the World di Michael Jackson, Bad Habits e 2 Step di Ed Sheeran.
Esistono tantissimi tipi di musica e ogni canzone è unica; tuttavia, hanno tutte una cosa in comune: trasmettono un messaggio.
Il progetto mi ha insegnato che, nelle canzoni e nei film, niente è lì per caso e tutto ha un significato. Le tematiche, purtroppo ancora attuali, del razzismo, della guerra, della cura che dobbiamo avere nei confronti del Pianeta e dei pregiudizi sono oggetto di molte canzoni, in segno di denuncia.
Un altro tema spesso presente nelle canzoni è il racconto di un sogno, come nel caso di Imagine.
Come nella vita reale, per tradurre una canzone non ci si deve fermare al significato letterale, ma bensì si deve cercare un concetto più profondo che l’autore vuole trasmettere, senza fermarsi alle apparenze e senza pregiudizi.
La musica ha il potere di unire le persone e, se usata bene, può portare ad un mondo migliore.
Why I loved the online lessons, by Francesco Sansoni (3A)
During the online lessons of the project «The Power of the Music» I’ve really had fun listening to English music and sharing ideas with the new friends I’ve made during this months. I also liked these lessons because I discovered new songs and I watched a film that I had never heard about before.
I found these lessons very interesting because I’ve learnt more about English and because I’ve also learnt more about the meaning of the songs we’ve studied.
These lessons were very special because I met new people and this is one of the most important things, because meeting new people and interacting with them is the best way to make new friends, even online. These are the most important reasons why I loved the lessons.
Translation. Durante queste lezioni online mi sono davvero divertito ascoltando musica inglese e condividendo idee con i nuovi amici che ho conosciuto durante questi mesi. Ho anche amato queste lezioni perché ho scoperto nuove canzoni e ho guardato un film di cui non avevo mai sentito parlare.
Ho trovato queste lezioni molto interessanti perché ho imparato più cose sull’inglese e perché ho anche imparato di più sul significato delle canzoni che ho studiato.
Queste lezioni sono state molto speciali perché ho incontrato nuove persone ed è una delle cose più importanti: incontrare nuove persone e interagire con loro è il modo migliore per fare nuovi amici, anche online. Queste sono le ragioni principali che spiegano perchè ho amato queste lezioni online.
My opinions on the song “Earth song”, by Rita Germano (3G)
To me this song conveys the pain felt by those who look at a destroyed world and nature, an Earth without animals and without plants, there are only fires and screaming suffering people.
In my opinion the message is asking why men have acted so foolishly, for which purpose?
In the end men don’t even know how to give an answer.
Translation. Per me questa canzone trasmette il dolore di chi guarda un mondo e una natura distrutti, una Terra senza animali e senza vegetazione, ma solo con incendi e le urla della gente che soffre.
Il messaggio secondo me consiste nel chiedersi il perché l’uomo commette tutto questo, a quale scopo?
Alla fine nemmeno l’uomo sa darsi una risposta.
